About the course
The Master of Medical Education aims to equip those who have teaching responsibilities in medicine or health sciences, with knowledge, skills and attitudes relevant to undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing medical education programs. The course promotes a broad understanding of contemporary, internationally recognised best-evidence educational practices and are designed to prepare future educational leaders in medicine and the health professions.
Graduates of the Master of Medical Education program will be able to:
- Model and promote internationally recognised, contemporary and innovative educational practices;
- Lead change through systematic evaluation of existing educational practices;
- Design and implement innovative educational practices/curricula using effective pedagogical principles which reflect best-evidence and learner-centredness;
- Contribute to the knowledge base of the medical education profession through critique, scholarly debate and high quality educational research;
- Develop and maintain a portfolio to support a professional approach to the development and delivery of educational practice and of their own identity as medical educators.
Career prospects
The Graduate Certificate in Medical Education is designed to skill medical and heath professional clinical teachers and administrators in contemporary, internationally recognised best-evidence educational practices. Th Graduate Diploma and Master's in Medical Education are designed to prepare future educational leaders and policy makers in the health arena.

Who is eligible to apply?
The course is suitable for anyone involved in medical education in Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Nursing, Health Sciences or any related field. Candidates who have successfully completed a bachelor’s degree from a recognised institution may apply for enrolment in the master’s degree or graduate diploma. Those with equivalent professional experience in a relevant field will be considered for enrolment in the graduate certificate.
Medical Education Affiliated Staff Scholarship
Established in 2009 by the Faculty of Medicine, the Medical Education Affiliated Staff Scholarship has been introduced to support affiliated staff who teach in the MBBS. The Scholarship will cover 50% of the fees in enrolment in the Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma or Master of Medical Education.
